With the new patch notes, Riot implemented a new fun mode called Teamfight Tactics. This new model doesn't have ranked queue yet but it was announced that they will bring ranked to it on future patches. For those who don't know, TFT (Teamfight Tactics) is based on a released game called Dota Auto Chess, the game mode is pretty much the same but what changes are the characters and the abilities they have but the way the game works, is the same.
What exactly is TFT or Dota Auto Chess?
Teamfight Tactics is an 8-player free-for-all drafting tactics game in which the player recruits powerful champions, deploys them, and battles to become the last player standing.
How does it work exactly?
The game itself is based on 3 main steps:
Choose a champion from the store and recruit them with gold. Then, drag them from the bench to the battlefield to deploy them. Combine three of the same champion to create a stronger, two-star version of that champion. Do the same with 2-star champions and you will get a 3-star one.
Each champion has specific classes and origins. When combining champions with the same classes or origins, it will create extra effects, for example, 2 ranger champions will give a 25% chance of double attack speed and have 4 ranger champions will increase the chance to 65%.
Each round, your team teleports to an enemy's arena (or vice-versa). Champions fight automatically, and if your team is defeated, your Little Legend takes damage. When your Little Legend's health reaches 0, you're out of the game. If you are the last survivor it means you won the game.
Can I get boosted in TFT?
Since ranked mode was announced, we will surely adapt for it. Our boosters are already preparing themselves and playing the game mode so they understand more about it and try to find a good strategy to win the games. We will create services such as Boosting and Coaching sessions for this game mode. This way we will give a chance for those who want to learn more about it and for those who also want to climb on it!
Thoughts about the game mode
We've gathered 4 different opinions; 2 from our management and 2 from boosters, each one will give their opinions and thoughts about the game mode.
- Management member:
“Riot released a new game mode in response to the popularity of the Dota Auto Chess. Many LoL players considered the Dota mode interesting and installed it so they could try the new game. TFT is a response to it and a way prevent a potential loss in the total amount of players that play LoL. TFT is also another temporary replacement to Solo and Flex Queue. It’s been a while since Riot focused on fun modes and TFT is a distraction from the main Queue to increase the interest in the main mode, once the players will be saturated with the new game mode.”
“TFT is a casual game mode, even if ranked comes out in the future, I don't think it'll be bug-free enough to be a good competitive game mode. There are too many things that need to be improved, it needs more diversity in the game (in terms of champions and compositions) and more consistency in terms of item drops, for example. However, it's really fun to play with your friends while talking as it's casual and in the early days, everyone can try a lot of different builds and strategies and see what works and what doesn't.”
- Management member:
“This new game mode is very fun but still it has a great sense of strategy just like League but in a different way, just like chess but with funny effects and different ways to win the game. This game will be very good for competitive once Riot fixes its bugs and balances the meta. I love it!”
“The curve of the game feels decent, the meta isn't that hard to figure out, however, the transitions between different compositions and optimizing your team during the different phases of the game is quite challenging and that's where probably most of the skill differences between people will come from. Either way, I see a lot of potential in TFT if Riot puts the necessary effort into the game, it can become a game of skill which can reach a competitive environment.”
