In Teamfight Tactics (TFT), managing your economy is crucial to success. By effectively accumulating and spending gold, you can improve your chances of building a powerful team. In this guide, we will discuss different ways to acquire gold and strategies for managing your economy throughout the game.

Acquiring Gold 🤑

Passive Income: You earn a base amount of gold each round, which starts low in the early stages but stabilizes at 5 gold per round once PvP begins.

Interest: Similar: to real life, you can save gold each round and earn bonus interest for every 10 gold you have, up to a maximum of 5 bonus gold per round. Accumulating gold allows you to generate more income.

Win/Loss Streak: Maintaining a winning streak or a losing streak grants bonus gold. You can hover over the streak icon to see how much gold you receive for your current streak.

Selling Champions: If you no longer need a certain champion, you can sell them by dragging them into your shop or by pressing the hotkey "E" when hovering over a champion. Unupgraded champions sell for their cost, while upgraded champions sell for their combined cost minus 1 gold (Tier 1 units are an exception).

Managing Economy Stages 1 to End 🏗️

Early Game: Stages 1-4

During the early game, focus on building your economy. Here are some tips:

  • Aim to reach 10 gold early to start earning interest. The earlier you reach 10 gold, the faster you'll accumulate more gold, including 20, 30, and eventually 50 gold, which is the maximum interest you can earn.
  • Generating more interest gold than your opponents will allow you to reach higher levels faster, giving you access to stronger units before others.
  • Pre-level to level 4, if you're looking for a specific 3-cost unit or no longer, need 1-cost units. Adjust your leveling strategy based on the current meta and your chosen strategy.
  • Maintain a win or loss streak in the early game to maximize gold earnings. Consider sacrificing HP and playing a weaker board for a losing streak, which provides additional gold.
  • Sell off pairs to make 10 or 20 gold when needed. General guidelines are to have 10 gold by stage 2-2, 20 gold by stage 2-5, and at least 30+ gold on Krugs (stage 2-7).
  • If you have a strong board, focus on winning rounds to maintain high HP and generate gold from win streaks.

Mid-Game: Stage 3

In the mid-game, you need to balance maintaining your streak, current board strength and transitioning into your desired composition. Here are some guidelines:

  • Adjust your strategy based on your current streak, HP total, board strength, and chosen composition.
  • If win-streaking, consider reaching level 6 on stage 3-1 to add another unit and maintain the streak.
  • Avoid leveling to 6 on stage 3-2 if you lose streaking and plan to roll at level 7 instead.
  • Roll at level 6 on stage 3-2 if you win or lose streaking or have multiple pairs to increase your potential power.
  • Level to 7 on stage 3-5 only if you can maintain at least 30 gold after leveling.
  • Roll on stage 3-5 if you're losing streaking and looking to turn the game around or stabilize your board.

Late Game: Stage 4 and Beyond

In the late game, you'll focus on solidifying your composition, reaching higher levels, and upgrading your units. Here's what you should keep in mind:

  • Level to 8 on stage 4-1 or 4-3, depending on your HP and gold situation. This will give you a better chance to find higher-cost units and complete your desired composition.
  • Roll for upgrades at level 8 if necessary, especially if you're low on HP or struggling to find key units. Consider saving enough gold to make a significant impact on your board.
  • If you're in a comfortable position with high HP and gold, you can opt to level to 9 on stage 5-1 or 5-3 to further increase your chances of finding top-tier units.
  • Adapt your strategy based on the lobby and the compositions of your opponents. Consider positioning your units strategically to counter specific threats.
  • If you're struggling to find upgrades or are low on HP, you may need to reroll aggressively at level 7 or 8 to stabilize your board and find essential units.
  • Keep an eye on your opponents' compositions and adjust your positioning and unit choices accordingly. Flexibility is key in the late game.

Additional

  1. Scouting and Flexibility: Keep an eye on your opponents' compositions and the current meta. Adapt your economic strategy accordingly. If you see multiple players contesting the same units as you, consider pivoting to a different composition or adjusting your rolling strategy.
  2. Economic Sacrifices: Sometimes, it's necessary to make short-term sacrifices for long-term gains. This can involve taking some calculated losses early on to maximize your gold income or selling valuable units to reach a crucial interest threshold. Always weigh the potential benefits against the risks before making these decisions.
  3. Item Management: Efficiently managing your items can greatly impact your economy. Prioritize building essential items for your core carries, but avoid unnecessarily combining items early on. Holding onto uncombined items allows you to sell them for additional gold if needed or adapt to new carry options later.
  4. Winning Streak Preservation: If you have a strong early game and are on a winning streak, consider investing some gold in leveling up or rolling down to strengthen your board further. Preserving your win streak can provide significant gold income and put you in a dominant position for the mid-game.
  5. Health Management: While economy management is crucial, preserving your HP is equally important. Falling too low on HP can limit your flexibility and put you at risk of early elimination. Find the right balance between economizing and ensuring your board strength is sufficient to survive.
  6. Information Utilization: Pay attention to the information available to you during the game. This includes the carousel rounds, the champions offered in your shop, and the shared draft pool. Utilize this information to make informed decisions about leveling, rolling, and positioning.
  7. Adaptive Leveling: Adapt your leveling strategy based on your chosen composition and the power spikes associated with specific levels. Some compositions benefit from reaching certain levels earlier, while others may require saving up for a quick level 9 to access high-cost units. Stay flexible and adjust your leveling timings accordingly.
  8. Stabilization and Transitions: As you approach the late game, focus on stabilizing your board and making necessary transitions. This may involve swapping out underperforming units, repositioning your champions, or completing crucial upgrades. Keep an eye on the lobby and adjust your composition to counter opponents effectively.

Remember that economic management is just one aspect of TFT gameplay, and it should be combined with solid decision-making, positioning, and understanding of the current meta. Practice, experimentation, and staying up-to-date with patches and strategies will contribute to your growth as a player. Good luck and have fun on the Convergence!
