EB24 about Teamfight Tactics #7- Current meta on Patch 9.23 from a Booster perspective

Now in the second week of Set 2, the meta has settled and top players already have a good grasp of what units and comps are good in the new set. Tomorrow will bring the first patch of set two, introducing some small nerfs and buffs.

The biggest takeaways of patch 9.23 are:

       1. Shadow is slightly worse but is still strong.

        2. Ocean and Wardens are slightly better. The two Warden combo of Thresh and Nautilus is very strong.

        3. Olaf and Berserker comps have dropped from close to S tier to A tier.

Some comps stand out above the rest and are the new S tier of set two. We at EloBoost24 present to you:

Top Comps to Run in 9.23

  • Predator Poison

Predator Poison is one of the strongest comps in patch 9.23. The strategy revolves around a strong early game with Predators and Electric, adding on poison and Zed for lategame. Finding an Electric Lux for 4 electric creates an almost unbeatable team.

1. How to play?

Save up gold before Krugs without leveling. Roll at level 4 just after Krugs looking to T3 Kog'Maw, Rek'Sai, Volibear, and Ornn. Once you are strong enough, save up gold to level and add in 3 poison, followed by either Zed for 3 electric or Olaf for 3 Berserkers.

2. When to go?

When you have a predator opener and see many copies of Kog’maw and Rek’sai.

  • Ocean Mage Summoner

Ocean mage summoner is a new comp that has emerged in 9.23 due to the 4 ocean and 2 warden buff. The beauty of this composition lies in how each part of it shores up a weakness of another.

  1. Summoners require a lot of mana, but Ocean allows them to ult quickly.
  2. Brand deals a lot of damage but mages lack frontline. Summoners and Wardens fill this role nicely.
  3. Wardens lack damage and don’t synergize with much, so we use the two Wardens that synergize with each other and add in Brand for damage.

This composition has the strongest mid-game but starts falling off late once players start adding in Mystic at level 8.

1. How to play?

Run Vladimir, Syndra, and another mage for early game. Add in Thresh and Nautilus mid-game. Once you 2-starts Brand, transfer items to him and look to add in 3 Summoner and 3 Inferno.

2. When to go?

When you open with Syndra and Vladimir and have mage items such as Tears and Rods.

  • Shadow Poison

Shadow, despite the heavy nerf, remains strong in the new patch. 4 Shadow is one of the strongest synergies in the game, nearly doubling the damage of all Shadow units. Poison is also especially strong, delaying your opponent’s ultimates and providing tanky frontline for your shadow units to deal damage. The 8th unit can be either Janna or Nami to grant two Mystics.

1. How to play?

From any opener, look for copies of Kindred and other shadow units. If you manage to 2* a Kindred, look for and add in the other three shadow units, using Malzahar or Veigar in place of Master Yi until lategame. After you have 4 Shadows, look to find and add in 3 Poison.

2. When to go?

When you get early copies of Kindred or Kindred items (Seraph is a must-have, Rabadon’s is excellent as well).

  • Summoner Assassins

After the shadow nerf, summoner assassins have taken the throne as the premiere summoner composition.

The entire comp is centered around Kha’zix - he deals extreme amounts of damage, especially when coupled with Desert and Assassin bonuses. Azir is a secondary carry for this comp, synergizing well with attack speed items. The remaining units, Summoners, and Wardens, serve to provide a frontline for Kha’zix to deal damage.

1. How to play?

Early game, look for any composition that can keep you alive. Woodland Druid and Inferno with Diana are two good compositions to open with. Add in 3 assassins, along with the Thresh/Nautilus pair. When you find Kha’zix, transfer items to him, and add in Azir for 2 Desert. Finish off the composition with Annie and Yorick for 3 summoners.

2. When to go?

When you have Kha’zix items - Infinity Edge is crucial and Seraph's is the second best item.

And now you can abuse from the best comps on this new patch and climb as much as possible. This guide was brought to you by Anoobiss!
