Warwick LoL Classic Build: Feral Flare Jungle

Warwick LoL Classic Build: Feral Flare Jungle
Warwick LoL Classic Build: Feral Flare Jungle

I missed old Warwick. He is one of that small group of champions who can simply decide a game on their own, alongside Shaco and Master Yi, and alongside Udyr whenever he eventually shows up, because he is not in the launch roster. That category of champion barely exists in modern League. It exists here.

I have also seen a lot of Warwicks in League Classic building things that make me tired. Madred's Bloodrazor first. Spirit of the Ancient Golem. I understand the logic behind both and I am not going to pretend those items do nothing. But neither of them is an item that wins a game by itself, and Warwick's actual strength is not a percentage health on hit passive. It is his jungle clear, and the item that rewards a fast jungle clear more than anything else in the shop.

TL;DR: Marks of Attack Speed, Seals of Armor, Glyphs of Magic Resist, Quintessences of Movement Speed, 21 offense and 9 utility. Rush Wriggle's Lantern, get Boots of Mobility early, then Blade of the Ruined King. After that you stop buying damage entirely and buy whatever the enemy team is forcing you to buy.

The Old Kit

Key

Ability

What it does

P

Eternal Thirst

Every basic attack heals, and successive attacks on the same target heal for more. Equivalent to roughly 5 up to 15% Life Steal based on Warwick's base Attack Damage.

Q

Hungering Strike

70 to 110 mana, cooldown 10 down to 6 seconds. Deals the higher of 75/125/175/225/275 (+100% AP) or 8/10/12/14/16% of the target's maximum Health, and heals Warwick for 80% of the damage dealt. Flat damage only against monsters.

W

Hunter's Call

35 mana, cooldown 24 down to 16 seconds. 40/50/60/70/80% Attack Speed for Warwick and 20/25/30/35/40% for every nearby ally, for 10 seconds.

E

Blood Scent

No cooldown, no cost. Detects enemy champions under 50% Health within 1500 up to 4700 range, and grants 20/25/30/35/40% Movement Speed while one is detected.

R

Infinite Duress

Blinks to the target and channels for 1.5 seconds, suppressing for 1.8 seconds, gaining 30% Life Steal, and dealing damage in five separate hits that each apply on hit effects, with a 200% bonus Attack Damage ratio.

Read the R line carefully, because it is the mechanical foundation of this entire build. Infinite Duress applies on hit effects five times. Every on hit item you own fires five times inside a 1.8 second suppression that the target cannot walk out of, cannot flash out of, and cannot cleanse in most cases. That is why on hit items are correct on Warwick and why raw Attack Damage is not.

Why Wriggle's Lantern Is the Item

Wriggle's gives you Attack Damage, Armor, Life Steal, a monster damage proc that makes your clear fast, and a free ward every three minutes. Those are good early statistics on their own and the vision matters more than people credit on a jungler.

But that is not the real reason. After 30 stacks, Wriggle's Lantern transforms into Feral Flare.

Feral Flare is on hit magic damage that grows permanently with every stack you collect, and you collect stacks from large monsters, champion kills, and assists. Every full clear makes the item stronger. Every gank makes the item stronger. And critically, you do not lose the stacks when you die. It is an item that scales forever on a champion whose ultimate applies on hit damage five times.

That is the difference between Feral Flare and Madred's Bloodrazor. Bloodrazor is a good statline that stops improving the moment you buy it. Feral Flare is a decision at minute six that keeps paying you at minute forty.

Warwick LoL Classic Build: Items and Order

Start. Hunter's Machete and five Health Potions. The stack counter for Feral Flare starts the moment you buy the Machete, which is one more reason not to detour into a different jungle item.

First back after the first clear. Madred's Razors and boots. Nothing clever, nothing greedy. Get the component that carries your clear speed and get moving.

Boots of Mobility, and earlier than you think. This is the purchase most people delay and it is the one that changes the game. Combined with Movement Speed quintessences you are moving at a speed no other jungler in the mode matches, comfortably past 500 while out of combat. You can genuinely leave a play top and be in a fight bot lane a few seconds later. Two ganks on opposite ends of the map in the same minute is not an exaggeration, it is a thing you will do repeatedly.

Then layer Blood Scent on top of that. Any enemy under half Health within a huge radius gives you up to 40% more Movement Speed for free, with no cooldown and no cost. Warwick does not chase people. He arrives.

Blade of the Ruined King. Finish Wriggle's and boots first, then this. Attack Speed, Life Steal, current Health damage on hit that fires five times during your ultimate, and an active that steals Movement Speed from the person you were already going to catch.

And that is where your offensive items end. Three items. Everything after this point is a reaction to the enemy team, not a damage upgrade.

Fourth and fifth: read the draft.

  • Enemy loaded with Ability Power? Spirit Visage, which also amplifies your passive healing, your Hungering Strike heal, and the 30% Life Steal on your ultimate. It is not just a Magic Resist item on this champion, it is a damage-into-sustain multiplier.

  • Enemy loaded with Attack Damage? Frozen Heart, for the Armor, the attack speed aura, and the cooldown reduction on a 100 second ultimate.

Sixth slot is yours. Banshee's Veil if a single spell is what stops your engage. Guardian Angel if you are the one carrying and dying ends fights. Wit's End if you somehow feel short on damage, which I doubt. Frozen Mallet if the enemy composition is mobile and you keep watching people escape after the suppression ends.

Skill order. Max Q first for the percentage maximum Health damage and the enormous heal, then W for the Attack Speed, then E, taking a point in E early for the movement. R at 6, 11, and 16 as always.

Runes and Masteries

Marks of Attack Speed. Everything about this build is on hit. Attack speed is the stat that converts Feral Flare and Blade of the Ruined King into actual damage, and it speeds up your clear from level 1.

Seals of Armor. Camps hit you and so does everyone you dive.

Glyphs of Magic Resist. Standard insurance, and you are frequently the one standing in the middle of the enemy team for 1.8 seconds.

Quintessences of Movement Speed. The pick that defines the build. This is the difference between being a jungler who ganks the lane nearest to him and a jungler who ganks whichever lane is winnable.

Masteries: 21 offense, 0 defense, 9 utility. The offensive tree feeds your Attack Speed and cooldown reduction. The nine utility points do what they always do for a jungler: movement speed, buff duration, and faster summoner spell access. Skipping defense entirely is a real choice on a 526 Health champion, and you accept it because your passive, your Q, and your ultimate are all healing.

How to Play

Clear first, always. Warwick has the healthiest clear in the mode. Your passive heals on every attack, Hungering Strike heals for 80% of a large flat number against monsters, and you never need to recall for Health. Use that. A Warwick who is behind on camps is a Warwick who bought an infinitely scaling item and then declined to scale it.

Look for setup, do not force it. If lanes are pushing and nothing is happening, go farm. In League Classic your four secondary camps respawn quickly, so the cost of taking a farming lap while you wait for a gank window is genuinely low. Spend that time collecting Feral stacks, which is the same thing as building your item.

Then use the movement speed. The correct Warwick game is not one gank every four minutes. It is being present at every fight on the map because you are the only person who can physically get there. When a lane commits, you are already halfway there, and Blood Scent will pull you the rest of the way as soon as somebody drops below half.

Ultimate targeting. 1.8 seconds of suppression is an eternity in a Classic teamfight. The question is never whether you can catch someone, it is who you should catch. Against a fed carry, suppression plus five on hit procs usually just kills them. Against a tanky front line, you have wasted your only crowd control.

What Changed From Live Warwick

  • Eternal Thirst heals on every attack and stacks up on a single target. Live Warwick's passive is bonus magic damage on hit that only heals him below 50% Health.

  • Hungering Strike is a point and click bite with no dash attached. Live Jaws of the Beast is a dash you can hold to swing behind the target.

  • Hunter's Call buffs your whole team's Attack Speed, not just yours. It is a genuine teamfight tool here.

  • Blood Scent is passive, permanent, and free. There is no toggle, no activation, and no fear applied to anyone.

  • Infinite Duress is a full 1.8 second suppression, and there is no version of it that gets shorter based on how the target reacts.

The habit to unlearn is treating Warwick like a modern diving fighter with a passive that only turns on when he is nearly dead. Classic Warwick sustains from full Health, moves faster than anyone should be allowed to, and removes one person from a fight entirely.

Why This Champion Matters in Classic

Here is what League Classic actually restored, and it has nothing to do with old models or old items.

It brought back a version of the game where one person can win a match even if the other four have decided not to. That is genuinely gone from modern League. Today, if somebody wants to lose the game, they will lose it, and no amount of individual play stops them. Years ago that simply was not true, and the best part is that it was not true for every champion, not just a handful of carries.

Warwick is one of the cleanest demonstrations of that. Fast clear, an item that never stops growing, movement speed nobody can match, and a button that removes a target from existence for 1.8 seconds. Farm your camps, be everywhere, and stop waiting for your team to make the game winnable.
