"Hardstuck Gold" is one of the most common insults in League of Legends and one of the most common self-descriptions. Same word, wildly different tone depending on who says it.

Hardstuck describes a player who has sat at the same rank for a long stretch despite continuing to play, unable to break into the tier above.

How it gets used

As an insult it is a way of saying someone's opinion carries no weight because their rank has not moved in years. As a self-description it is closer to an admission, usually delivered with some frustration attached.

The word carries more sting than "stuck" because the "hard" implies permanence. Nobody is called hardstuck after a bad week. It takes months of flat progress.

Hardstuck versus a normal plateau

A plateau is temporary and usually has an obvious cause: a role change, a patch that gutted your main, a stretch of tilt. It resolves on its own.

Hardstuck is what a plateau becomes when nothing changes. The player keeps queueing, keeps playing the same way, and the ladder keeps returning the same answer. The volume is real, which is what separates it from simply not playing enough.

What causes it

Almost always one of three things, and rarely the teammates.
