EB24 about Legends of Runeterra #1- Introduction of the Game
With Riot's 10th Anniversary, they released a bunch of new games that are completely different than League. One of them was called Legends of Runeterra. On this blog post, we'll be introducing everyone to it with the basic information of this new game coming in 2020.
- What is Legends of Runeterra?
Legends of Runeterra is a card game where you use the champions and regions of League of Legends to build a deck and battle an opposing player. Each deck is comprised of 40 cards and can be created from a maximum of two regions. You start each game with a max of 20 Health while being represented by a Nexus. So just like it happens League, the goal of the game is to destroy the enemy’s Nexus before they destroy yours.

- Is it free to play?
Yes, it is. Riot has that as a requirement, all games are free to play and only content inside the game can be bought with real money. (but as well with the currency from the game itself)
- Why are they creating this new game?
As stated on the Legends of Runeterra's FAQ, they say:
“A lot of us have been playing card games since we were kids, so we know the issues with the genre: Spending an entire paycheck just to try another deck. Over-the-top randomness deciding which player wins. Playing against the same decks over and over, and cards that stay broken way too long.”
Their goal, as replied above and related to the question about being free to play is to make the best of both worlds to those who love card games but can't afford to get all the decks of cards. They also said, quote:
“Basically, we’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what we’d do differently. And now we have a chance to shake up the genre by keeping what’s great, improving what’s not, and adding some new twists of our own.
So we’ve been hard at work making the best card game we can imagine—one that we hope players everywhere will love. We’re pretty excited to show players what we’ve got so far, and we can’t wait to hear what you think!”
- How can I play it? Do I need to register?
To get access to the game, you first need to pre-register on their official website. Then you need to watch either Twitch streams of the game or videos about it as well, so you get the chance to get access to the game itself.
You need to link your League account with Twitch or YouTube accounts so you get that dropping chance, in case you do, you'll get an e-mail with the download file.
- Is the game playable now? Or is it live?
At the moment the second Preview Patch just ended on 19th November. They are planning to release a Closed Beta in the Early Q1, which means the first quarter of 2020. You can check the roadmap below:
