The best AION 2 Templar build levels Punishment first, registers Empyrean Lord's Punishment, Nezekan's Shield, Executing Blade and Taunt as Stigmas at levels 22, 27, 32 and 37, and uses a Combat Speed reduction Theostone. The Templar is the only pure Tank in the global client, so this build is about holding enmity, protecting the party and still adding real damage through the Executor buff.

This guide is built for the global version that launched on October 5, 2026, using the skill data in the global launch client. There is no global ranking data yet, so these picks come from what the Templar's kit rewards on paper, with the reasoning shown, not from leaderboards.

How the Templar Plays in AION 2

The Templar fights with a longsword and shield, and it is the only class the client tags as a pure Tank. Your job in a group is simple to describe and hard to do well: keep enmity, keep the party alive, and do not become dead weight on the damage meter.

That last part is where good Templars separate themselves. Punishment's Executor buff is one of the strongest self buffs in any kit, so a Templar who keeps it rolling contributes far more damage than people expect from a tank.

How Templar Builds Work on Global

On the global client, each skill costs 21 skill points to go from level 1 to 10, the Daevanion boards can push it four levels higher, and Stigma slots open at levels 22, 27, 32 and 37, with four in total. Best Templar Skills to Level First

Punishment comes first. It is a charged skill on a 30 second cooldown that applies Executor: +200 Accuracy and +20% PvE Damage Boost for 20 seconds. Keeping it up is your biggest damage lever.

Shield Smite is your control tool: a 10 second cooldown, four targets, and a Stun. Warding Strike is your survival button, healing you and granting +20% PvE Damage Tolerance on a 30 second cooldown. Judgment finishes the core.

Every skill costs 21 points from level 1 to 10, so get Punishment and Warding Strike to useful levels before anything else.

Best Templar Passives

Enhance Health gives +7.5% Max HP and +6% Incoming Heal, which also makes your healer's job easier. Ironclad Defense adds +7% Defense, and Guarding Seal throws up a shield worth 21% of your Max HP when you drop below half. At level 21, Fury gives your party +5.5% PvE Damage Boost when you Block, which is genuine group value.

Best Templar Stigma Order

Solo tip: if you level alone, Doom Shield (a 30 second rush with Knockdown and a small shield) is a better last slot than Taunt. Swap Taunt back in when you start queuing for groups.

Templar Specializations

On Warding Strike, take -5 seconds cooldown first, then the level 16 option that gives the whole party +10% PvE Damage Tolerance when you use it. On Shield Smite, take -2 seconds cooldown, then the level 16 AoE Stun. On Punishment, the level 12 option turns it into a mobile skill, which matters a lot when bosses force you to move.

Templar Daevanion Path

On Nezekan, walk the Enhance Health, Ironclad Defense and Guarding Seal pairs. On Zikel, go for Fury and Insulting Roar, which grants +100% Enmity Boost. That enmity node is what keeps threat on you when your damage dealers get greedy.

Best Templar Weapon and Theostone

Use an Epic or Unique longsword with a Combat Speed reduction Theostone. It is the only proc that slows how fast the target attacks, which is exactly what a tank wants.

Templar PvP Notes

In PvP, the Templar's value is control and peel. Shield Smite's Stun and Empyrean Lord's Punishment are your playmakers, and Daevanion PvP tolerance lines matter more than damage once you can reach them.

Common Templar Mistakes

• Treating the Templar as pure defence and letting Executor drop.

• Skipping Nezekan's Shield at 27. It is the strongest party tool in your kit.

• Taking a damage Theostone. The Combat Speed reduction proc is built for tanks.

• Running Taunt while leveling solo, when Doom Shield is better until you group.

Do Not Copy a Korean Templar Build Blindly

Korea and Taiwan have been playing AION 2 since November 2025, so most Templar guides online were written for their servers. Those servers are now on a different version: a level 50 cap instead of 45, Stigma levels up to 25 instead of 20, extra content, and a ninth class.
