Deadlock Ranks Explained: All 11 Ranks in Order and How Ranked Works

Deadlock has 11 ranks, from Initiate at the bottom to Eternus at the top, each split into six subranks (I to VI), plus Obscurus, the uncalibrated badge you carry until your eight placement matches are done. The ladder arrived with the July 30, 2026 matchmaking update that split queues into Standard and Ranked, and you climb it on Rank Points: roughly 300 per match, 1,000 per subrank.

Reading the Ladder

Each rank has six subranks, I to VI, with VI the highest step inside a rank, so the full ladder is 66 steps from Initiate I to Eternus VI. Your badge shows rank and subrank, and your exact Rank Points update after every ranked match.

Seen different names in older guides? Before the July 2026 overhaul, parts of the ladder used names like Alchemist, Arcanist and Archon. Those are gone. If a guide lists them, it predates the current system.

How You Earn a Rank

Ranked is not open from game one. You first need 60 Standard Mode wins and three heroes with at least 15 Standard wins each, covered in our ranked unlock guide. Then you play eight solo placement matches under the Obscurus badge, and the system assigns your starting rank, capped at Oracle VI no matter how good you were before. Our placement matches guide explains the calibration details.

Rank Points and Protection

  • About 300 Rank Points won or lost per match, a value Valve raised from 250 in early August 2026.

  • 1,000 points per subrank, so a subrank is three to four net wins.

  • Rank protection softens drops: reports put it at two matches of protection at a subrank boundary and five at a full rank boundary, so one bad evening does not undo a week.

The full math of what a climb costs is in our rank up fast guide.

Parties and Leaderboards

Ranked allows solo and duo queue only, with no full stacks, and your eight placements must be solo. Season 1 runs with regional leaderboards: reports put the global top 1,000 requirement at 75 ranked matches, and hero leaderboards at 30 matches on the hero plus 100 lifetime wins.
