How to Unlock Ranked in Deadlock: The 60-Win Requirement Explained
To unlock Ranked Mode in Deadlock you need 60 wins in Standard Mode, at least three heroes with 15 or more Standard wins each, and no active penalties on the account. Only then do you play the eight solo placement matches that give you a rank. The requirement counts wins, not games, so the real grind is bigger than the number suggests.
Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
60 Standard wins | Wins only; losses do not count |
3 Ranked-eligible heroes | A hero needs 15+ Standard wins to be usable in Ranked |
Clean account | Active sanctions and comms bans block the queue |
Then | 8 solo placement matches |

Why Valve Gates Ranked This Hard
Sixty wins is one of the steepest ranked gates in any competitive game, and it is deliberate. Deadlock is a MOBA-shooter where item knowledge, lane mechanics and map movement take dozens of games to learn, and the gate keeps day-one accounts, smurfs and bots out of the competitive pool. It also forces a real hero pool: the per-hero rule means you enter ranked with three heroes you can genuinely play, not one trick and two prayers.
The Real Size of the Grind
Here is the honest math. Sixty wins at a 50% win rate is about 120 Standard matches, and Deadlock games commonly run 30 to 40 minutes, so the unlock alone represents roughly 60 to 80 hours for an average player. The hero requirement usually comes along for free if you rotate three heroes while grinding, but one-trick players should plan their 15-win heroes early.
Two ways to make it faster:
Queue with a stronger duo. Win rate is everything in a wins-based gate: at 60% instead of 50%, the same unlock takes 100 games instead of 120. Deadlock Fast Games put a verified high-level teammate in your lobby for exactly this.
Hand the grind over. Deadlock ranked unlock gets the 60 wins and the three eligible heroes done on your account by a professional, so you start at the part that matters, and placement matches can carry that straight through calibration.
What Happens After the Unlock
Once eligible, you queue your eight solo placements under the Obscurus badge, place at Oracle VI at best, and climb from there at roughly 300 Rank Points per match. The full ladder is in our ranks guide, the calibration details are in the placements guide, and the climbing math is in how to rank up fast.
One more honest note: a new account also needs an invite before any of this starts, since Deadlock is still an invite-only playtest. Our Deadlock 2026 overview covers how access works.
