What Win Rate Do You Need to Climb in League of Legends?
Every tracker leads with it, every player checks it, and almost everyone reads it wrong. A 52 percent win rate looks unremarkable on a profile and is in fact a strong climbing engine.
Win rate is the percentage of ranked games you have won, and it is the most direct measure of whether your current rank is going anywhere.
What each number actually means
Win rate | What it tells you |
|---|---|
Below 48 percent | Your rank is drifting downward, slowly but steadily |
49 to 51 percent | You are exactly where the system thinks you belong |
52 to 55 percent | A real climb, sustainable over a full split |
Above 57 percent | You are meaningfully above your current rank |
The gap between 50 and 53 percent looks trivial and is not. Over three hundred games it is the difference between finishing the split in the same division and finishing it two tiers higher.
Why win rate can lie
Sample size is the usual culprit. Sixty percent across twenty games means nothing. The same number across two hundred games is a different statement entirely.
Champion win rate is the other trap. A high number on a champion you have played five times says more about those five lobbies than about the champion or about you.
And a win rate stuck at exactly 50 percent across hundreds of games is not bad luck. It is the ladder giving you a clear and correct answer, which is what being hardstuck looks like in numbers.
Win rate versus LP
They are not the same measurement and they can disagree. A player at 54 percent whose MMR sits below their rank can still barely move, because the extra wins are being paid at a discount. If your win rate looks healthy and your LP does not, the hidden rating is where the problem lives.
Check that first with our free MMR checker rather than assuming you need to play better.
Turning a win rate into a rank
If your percentage is already strong and the rank has not followed, the rating needs repairing rather than the gameplay. Win boosting does exactly that, and division boosting skips ahead to the rank the win rate says you should already have.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a 55 percent win rate good in League of Legends?
Yes. Sustained over a large sample it is a strong climb.
Why is my rank not moving with a positive win rate?
Almost always a damaged MMR, which pays out less per win than it takes per loss.
How many games make a win rate meaningful?
Around a hundred in the same queue and role before the number says much.
