EB24 about Teamfight Tactics #9 - Current meta on Patch 10.1 from a Booster perspective

Patch 10.1 has seen many new comps rise into prominence - the introduction of two very strong units in Karma and Leona, as well as the nerfs to Blender has shaken up the meta. Comps which were previously close to unplayable, such as Rangers and Lights, have become very strong in the new patch.

The biggest shift in the meta is the absence of Assassins. The death of Blender has resulted in almost no assassins in the current meta, enabling full damage builds on previously mediocre ranged carries such as Twitch, Sivir, Kog’Maw, and Lux.

Important Changes

  • Synergies

Druid

Druid Health Regen: 40 ⇒ 45

These buffs, although seemingly insignificant, have brought Woodland Druid back into play. The last patch, Woodland Druid was strong early but didn’t see play due to how costly it was to transition out of them. This patch, they are the best early game comp in the game, and multiple players per high elo lobby use them despite the difficulty of transitioning.

Light

Light Attack Speed Bonus: 15%/25%/35% ⇒ 15%/35%/55%

6 piece light has received a massive buff - so much so that Yorick and Lucian was nerfed mid-patch. In 9.24, Lights were considered very weak to borderline unplayable. Now, 6 Light is a premier comp that can snag first place.

Ocean

Ocean Mana Regen (per 4 seconds): 15/30/60 ⇒ 10/30/60

The nerfs to 2 Ocean make the two-piece synergy virtually worthless. Compositions which previously relied on 2 Ocean, such as Summoner Assassin and Electric Wardens, are much weaker in the new patch. These nerfs, combined with nerfs to Nami and Amumu, kill the fast level 8 playstyle we saw so much the last patch.

  • Units

Nocturne

Nocturne Attack Speed: 0.75 ⇒ 0.7

Nocturne Attack Damage: 60 ⇒ 55

No longer attacks twice on the spin.

Blademaster Nocturne has been the centerpiece of the meta for nearly two months now. These nerfs finally kill the comp, removing it from prominence. In its place, a new blademaster composition centering around Sivir and Azir has emerged.

Nami

Nami Ability Damage: 150/250/350 ⇒ 100/200/300

Last patch, Nami was used as a good unit to splash in 2 Ocean. These damage nerfs combined with the 2 Ocean nerf have reduced Nami from a meta-defining unit that is first priority on late-game carousels to a “nice-to-have” unit that would be sold to make econ.

Amumu

Amumu Stun Duration: 2/2/2 ⇒ 1.5/2/5

Amumu Ability Damage: 150/250/1337 ⇒ 100/200/1337

Amumu Starting/Total Mana: 50/125 ⇒ 75/150

Amumu was hit threefold - his mana, damage, and stun duration were all nerfed. Amumu’s nerfs in combination with Nami’s have resulted in a more aggressive meta - while these units are still strong, players no longer rush 8 specifically looking for them.

  • Items

Last Whisper

Critical hits reduce the target’s Armor by 90% for 3 seconds. This effect does not stack.

A solid item in combination with Infinity Edge. This item is top tier in Rangers and can be run in Berserkers and Blademasters as well.

Titan’s Resolve

When the wearer is hit or inflicts a critical strike, they gain a 2% stacking damage bonus, up to 100%. At 50 stacks, the wearer gains 25 Armor and MR; and increases in size. Resets every round.

One of the worst items in the game. However, the additional damage on Titan’s Resolve is multiplicative, which makes it a good item when you have three of them. Triple Titan’s Resolve is solid on tanks such as Maokai, Skarner, or Mundo, or in combination with Jeweled Gauntlet on Singed.

Bramble Vest

Negates bonus damage from incoming critical hits. On being hit by a Basic Attack, deal 80/120/160 magic damage to all nearby enemies (once every 1 second maximum). Scales with wearer’s Star Level.

A solid early game item, but falls off later. It is usually made when you have two vests but is not strong enough to specifically go for on carousel.

Frozen Heart

25% attack speed slow ⇒ 40% attack speed slow

1 second debuff duration ⇒ 0.5 second debuff duration

Frozen heart remains weak, especially with the nerf to its debuff duration. It is stronger than before but still sees almost no play.

Iceborn Gauntlet

After casting a spell, the wearer’s next basic attack freezes the target for 1.5 seconds.

Prior to the patch, many high elo players speculated it would be strong on Ezreal in combination with Seraph’s. However, the item is too weak to see the play, and no high elo players are building this item.

Ionic Spark

Enemies within 3 hexes that cast a spell are zapped, taking magic damage equal to 200% of their max Mana.

Ionic Spark received a buff as well. However, like Frozen Heart, it is not strong enough to see the play. The item is occasionally built on Singed when Morellonomicon is not available.

  • Comps to Run

Berserkers

When to go?
If you have some Volibears early, you can start building your comp around him. Locket of The Iron Solari can help you survive the early game. Later on, you want to focus on your Olaf items, core items would be RFC and Infinity Edge. Morellonomicon can be used on Singed for the poison variation. Berserker Axe can be used on Khazix for Desert synergy, in that case, replace him with Jax.

Blademaster Summoner

When to go?

If you are able to get an early Spatula, which you are going to use to turn Azir into a Blademaster. For early game, you can use Renekton, since he is a solid unit, and pairs nicely with Azir and Sivir. This comp is very flexible and has many variations depending on what you need. You want to prioritize stacking items on your two main carry units Azir and Sivir. Infinity Edge, Red Buff, Hush can be used on Sivir, for Azir you want to build Jeweled Gauntlet, Spear of Shojin.

Soulbound Light

When to go?

When you open with a lot of light units and also have good items for Lucian and Senna.

Core items would be Giant Slayer-Hush-Infinity Edge for Lucian, and GA-Morello for Senna. Guardian Angel can be a priority item on your Senna as it works really well with the Soulbound trait, for Lucian you want to focus on Giant Slayer. If you got an extra GA use it on Yorick since he can use it very well.

Rangers-Warden-Poison

When to go?
If you start your game with some Bows-Bf swords. Early game you can use Kog'Maw and Predators, they can provide you a strong start, mid-game you should start picking up core pieces for your comp and based on what you get and how fast transition out of Predators. As well-paired Rangers + Wardens can be used for early game. Twitch should be your main carry, so stack him with Infinity Edge-Last Whisper, Ashe can be used as your second carry, Statikk Shiv works good on her, as well Red Buff+Hurricane can help a lot. Any other items that you can’t use can go on your front line, such as Morello, Frozen Heart, Redemption.

And these are the best comps to play right now on patch 10.1!
