Early December 2025 Balance Deep-Dive: Which Troops Got Buffed & What It Means for Clash of Clans

The December 2025 balance update is one of the most impactful changes Clash of Clans players have seen in a long time. Not only did Supercell remove Town Hall 18’s Giga Inferno, but they replaced it with two brand new guardian units Longshot and Smasher, instantly changing how players think about high-level defense.

To make things even more exciting, the Meteor Golem originally introduced through the Cosmic Rock event is now a permanent troop. Players who reach Barracks Level 19 at Town Hall 17 can add it to their army for good.

This update didn’t stop there. New building and hero levels, cheaper upgrades, and an improved Super Wizard Tower also arrived creating a mix of buffs, nerfs, and meta shifting mechanics.

Which Troops Got Buffed?

The balance patch came with several troop adjustments meant to smooth out power spikes and fix long-standing inconsistencies.

Giant

  • + 100 HP

  • + 2 DPS

A small buff on paper, but extremely valuable for funneling and tanking early splash fire. Giants now survive slightly longer in tricky choke points, especially when paired with Healers or Witches.

Minion Prince

  • - 1000 HP base

  • + 500 HP on all equipment

A strange but intentional shift. Supercell clearly wants Minion Prince to rely more on gear loadouts, giving players more room to customize builds rather than expect consistent baseline performance.

Additional Buffs

  • Giant Arrow: damage increased from 1950 → 2000

  • Heal Spell: faster healing at max level + longer duration
A huge buff for Queen Walks and hybrid strategies.

  • Thrower: +100 HP, +10 DPS
Slowly shaping into a more reliable backline unit.

All of these buffs subtly strengthen ground-heavy strategies, signaling that Supercell wants more diversity at higher trophy ranges.

Meet the Guardians Longshot & Smasher

With the Giga Inferno finally gone, Town Hall 18 now relies on two dedicated defenders. This is a major meta change, as TH defenses now behave more like units rather than a static final weapon.

Longshot

  • Long range targeted defense

  • Splash damage

  • Explodes on death

Think of Longshot as a defensive artillery piece great at controlling groups of troops before they reach the core.

Smasher

  • Melee splash damage

  • Attacks both air & ground

  • Drops a Rage Spell on death

  • Also drops Rage when the Town Hall is destroyed

This makes Smasher devastating against swarm units (Barch, Minions, Goblins) and extremely dangerous in the center of a base.

Meteor Golem Now a Permanent Troop

Originally an event exclusive, the Meteor Golem earned a permanent spot on the roster.
Role:

  • Splash damage to both air & ground

  • Upon death, it splits into two meteorites

  • Meteorites target single ground units

This makes Meteor Golem unpredictable but extremely fun. Its split effect adds chaos in both offense and defense, giving skilled players more tactical flexibility.

What All of This Means for the Meta

Buffs and nerfs are nothing new in Clash of Clans, but this patch feels especially targeted:

More Dynamic Defense at TH18

Replacing the Giga Inferno with two new defenders means high-level players need to rethink:

  • funneling

  • spell usage

  • siege pathing

  • suicide hero tactics

Longshot and Smasher introduce fresh counterplay possibilities not seen since Giga Tesla became outdated.

Stronger Support Play

Level 7 clans can now donate four spells instead of three.
This increases:

  • tactical diversity

  • war preparation flexibility

  • teamwork impact

Clans that communicate well benefit the most here.

More Creativity in Ground Attacks

Buffs to Giant, Heal Spell, and Thrower hint at a small push toward:

  • Giant–Bowler hybrid

  • Queen Walk into Throwers

  • Heal-heavy Super Miner paths

Players may see more ground strategies returning in late 2025.

Better Progression Experience

Reduced upgrade costs and new building/hero levels mean midgame villages (TH11–TH15) get:

  • smoother progression

  • less bottlenecking

  • more engaging upgrade decisions

This keeps the player base alive and avoids burnout something Clash updates occasionally struggle with.

Final Thoughts

The November 2025 update brought refreshing depth to Clash of Clans without overwhelming players. Between new troops, reworked defenses, cheaper upgrades, and deeper strategy potential, the game feels more alive than it has in years.

Whether you're pushing to Legend League, grinding Clan Wars, or building a polished base that you might later sell on the official marketplace (How to Sell Clash of Clans Accounts), these changes shape the way late-game Clash will be played moving forward.
