What Is MMR in Teamfight Tactics?

MMR is the hidden rating Riot uses to decide which seven players you sit down against. Your rank and LP are the public face of it; the rating underneath is what matchmaking actually trusts. In TFT it is driven entirely by placement: a first counts far more than a fourth, and an eighth costs more than a second earns.

For a fast feel: if a first place pays you a lot of LP and an eighth barely stings, your hidden MMR is ahead of your rank and you are underranked. If a first place moves the bar hardly at all, your MMR is lower than your rank, so wins pay less and losses cost more. Run the checker above and the Health label tells you which side you are on right now.

The signals behind every TFT MMR estimate

Your tier and division
Iron through Challenger sets the floor the estimate is built on. TFT runs the same ladder as League, so the same rating scale applies.
Your LP inside that tier
LP places you within the tier rather than at its edge, which is why two Gold players get different numbers.
Your top-four rate
TFT records a top-four finish as a win. A record above half lifts the estimate above the baseline, a weaker one pulls it under.
How many games sit behind it
The adjustment is weighted by sample size, so ten games barely move the number and three hundred move it fully.

Approximate TFT MMR by rank

These bands are the scale the checker maps onto, published so you can judge the estimate rather than take it on trust. They approximate a hidden value; they are not figures read off a Riot server.

RankApprox. MMR bandWhat it signals
Iron0 – 400Placements and fresh accounts
Bronze400 – 800Still learning item and econ basics
Silver800 – 1200The bulk of the ladder sits here
Gold1200 – 1600Consistently above the median
Platinum1600 – 2000Reliable top-four rate
Emerald2000 – 2400Strong flexible play
Diamond2400 – 2800High-skill bracket
Master+2800 and upApex, LP runs unbounded

Master and above run on a single unbounded LP pool rather than divisions, so the top band is open-ended by design.

What Moves Your TFT MMR Up or Down?

One thing moves it: where you finish. Everything else in a TFT game matters only through its effect on placement, which is why the honest advice here is duller than most guides admit.

What actually moves MMR

  • Placement, weighted by position. First and eighth are worth several times what fourth and fifth are, so consistency at the top of the lobby beats occasional heroics.
  • The strength of the lobby. Beating a Challenger lobby moves your rating more than beating a Gold one, which is why smurf accounts settle so quickly.
  • Streaks. A run of top fours pushes MMR faster than the same results spread out, because matchmaking treats a run as evidence.
  • Volume, but only to a point. More games make the rating more confident rather than automatically higher.

What the checker reads as signal

  • Tier and division, which fix the baseline for the queue you selected.
  • LP within that tier, which positions you inside it rather than at the boundary.
  • The wins and losses on record, which in TFT is your top-four rate.

Top-four bands and what they imply

TFT counts a top-four finish as a win, so the ratio on a profile is really a consistency score. Reading it is most of what an experienced player does when sizing someone up.

Above 60%
Well ahead of the lobby. Your MMR is almost certainly above your rank and the climb should be quick.
52% to 60%
Climbing steadily. This is what a healthy upward trajectory looks like over a large sample.
48% to 52%
You are where you belong. LP moves roughly evenly in both directions.
Below 48%
The rank is ahead of the rating. Expect small gains and heavy losses until it settles.

Myths that do not move MMR

None of the following change your hidden rating, however often they are repeated in chat.

  • Playing a particular comp because it is "good for MMR".
  • Dodging lobbies to protect a streak.
  • Your damage dealt, gold spent or units held at the end.
  • Playing at a particular time of day.

TFT MMR by Queue and Region

MMR is tracked per queue and per region. Your ranked rating on EUW is independent from Double Up, and from any account you hold on NA, Korea or anywhere else. A strong rating on one server says nothing about another, so check the exact account and queue you care about.

How to Raise Your TFT MMR

The rating rewards consistency far more than spikes, so the fastest climb usually comes from cutting the bottom-half finishes rather than chasing more firsts.

Cut the eighths before you chase the firsts
An eighth costs more rating than a first earns. A player who never bottoms out climbs faster than one who alternates between first and last.
Play the lobby, not the comp you wanted
Forcing a composition against a contested board is the most common way a solid game turns into a bottom four. Pivot when the units are not coming.
Protect your health bar early
Health is the resource that buys you time to hit. Taking avoidable damage in the first stages removes the outs you need later.
Learn one flexible line properly
Depth in a single adaptable direction beats shallow knowledge of five, because you will actually recognise when it is open.
Stop when the results turn
Rating falls faster than it rises. A three-game slide is a signal to close the client, not to queue again.

Re-run the checker every week or two: as your top-four rate shifts, the estimate and the Health label move with it. If you would rather have the climb done for you, TFT boosting and TFT coaching are the two routes we run.

Reading Your TFT MMR Result

The number is the headline, but the Health label is the part that changes what you should do next. Here is how to read each piece.

  • Estimated MMR is the rating we think matchmaking has you at.
  • Estimated rank is the rank that rating would sit at once LP had fully caught up.
  • Your actual rank and LP are what the client shows you today.
  • Health is the gap between the two, and the figure that tells you what to expect next game.

How to act on each Health label

Underranked
Keep queueing. Your rating is ahead of your rank and the LP is owed to you; this is the cheapest climbing you will ever get.
Healthy
You are where the ladder thinks you belong. Improvement now has to come from play, not from the rank catching up.
Overranked
Expect thin gains and heavy losses for a while. Slow down and focus on avoiding bottom fours rather than forcing wins.
Unranked
No ranked games on record for this queue yet. Play your placements and check again.

Methodology: How We Estimate TFT MMR

Everything here is stated so you can judge the estimate yourself, including the parts we deliberately do not do.

Public data only, through the official API
We read the tier, division, LP and win/loss record your account already shows, using the Riot API and the Riot ID you type. No login, no client, no overlay, nothing stored.
Rank and LP set the baseline
Your tier and LP map onto a published rating scale, the same one printed in the table on the first tab, so the starting point is checkable rather than a black box.
Top-four rate adjusts it
A record above half raises the estimate and a weaker one lowers it, with the size of the move weighted by how many games sit behind it. A small sample barely shifts the number.
It is an estimate, not the figure on Riot servers
Riot does not publish MMR, and anyone claiming to show the exact internal value is guessing too. Treat this as directional: reliable for whether you are ahead of or behind your rank, not to the point.
Hyper Roll is out of scope
Hyper Roll uses its own Gray to Hyper rating rather than tiers and LP, so the scale has nothing to anchor to. It is left out rather than approximated.

Common questions

TFT MMR checker FAQ

The questions TFT players ask most about MMR: what it is, how to check it, why it drifts ahead of or behind your rank, why a first place sometimes pays so little, and what this checker can and cannot read from public Riot data.

  • What is MMR in Teamfight Tactics?

MMR, or matchmaking rating, is the hidden number Riot uses to build your lobby. It sits behind the rank and LP you can see. In TFT it is driven by where you finish: a first place moves it far more than a fourth, and an eighth pulls it down hard. Riot never publishes the raw figure, which is why every TFT MMR checker gives an estimate rather than the real value.

  • What is my TFT MMR right now?

Type your Riot ID above, pick your region and queue, and the checker returns an estimate in a few seconds. It reads the tier, division and LP your account currently shows, together with your recorded wins and losses for that queue, and maps them onto a rating scale. You do not need to install anything or log in anywhere.

  • How do you check MMR in TFT without a third-party site?

You read it off your LP. Riot does not show MMR anywhere in the client, so the only in-game signal is how much LP a placement is worth. Finish second and gain a lot while eighth costs you little, and your MMR is ahead of your rank. If a first place barely moves the bar, your MMR has fallen behind. This tool does that arithmetic for you.

  • Why does a first place give me so little LP?

Because your MMR is lower than your visible rank. LP is paid against the rating matchmaking actually has for you, not against the badge on your profile. When that rating sits below your rank you gain less for a good placement and lose more for a bad one, and the gap has to close before the numbers look normal again. That is the state the checker labels Overranked.

  • What is the difference between TFT MMR and rank?

Rank is the badge and the LP total the client shows you. MMR is the rating matchmaking actually trusts when it fills your lobby. Rank follows MMR with a delay, so the two disagree after any run of good or bad games. Two players sitting on the same Diamond IV LP total can have noticeably different MMR, and they will climb at different speeds because of it.

  • What does the Health label mean?

Health is the gap between your estimated MMR and the rating your displayed rank is worth. Underranked means your MMR is ahead of your rank, so you should be climbing with generous LP. Overranked means the reverse. Healthy means the two agree and your LP moves roughly evenly in both directions. It is a one-glance read on whether to keep queuing.

  • How accurate is this TFT MMR checker?

It is an estimate, not the figure on Riot servers. It is built from your public rank, LP and win/loss record for the queue you select, which are the same signals an experienced player reads off a profile. Treat it as directional: it reliably tells you whether you sit ahead of, behind or in line with your rank, and it is not meant to be a precise number.

  • Does it work for Double Up?

Yes. Double Up carries its own tier, division and LP, so it gets its own estimate. Pick it from the queue selector and the checker reads that ladder rather than your solo one. Hyper Roll is deliberately not offered: it uses the Gray to Hyper rating system instead of tiers and LP, so there is nothing for the scale to anchor to.

  • Do I need to log in or share my Riot password?

No. The checker is anonymous and asks for nothing but a Riot ID. There is no account creation, no OAuth screen and no request for your password, email or two-factor codes. Everything is read through the official Riot API. If any site asks you to log in to check your MMR, close it.

  • Can I improve my MMR faster than my rank?

That is exactly what a strong run does. Consistent top-four finishes lift your MMR before the LP catches up, which is why the reward for each placement grows while you are underranked. The fastest way there is fewer eighth places rather than more firsts, since the bottom half of the lobby is where ratings bleed out.

Behind the number

How the TFT MMR checker works

Every estimate is built from public ranked data through the official Riot API, never a login or private stat. Here is the exact path your inputs take from the Riot ID you type to the estimated MMR, matching rank and Health label you read.

zippy
1

Enter your region, queue and Riot ID Pick the region your account plays on, choose Ranked TFT or Double Up, and type your full Riot ID in the GameName#TAG format. We never ask for a password, an email or any login. Everything read here is public.

2

We read your public ranked standing We look up the tier, division and LP your account currently shows for that queue, along with the wins and losses on record, through the official Riot API. No client, no overlay, no credentials, and nothing an opponent could not already see on your profile.

3

We map rank and LP onto a rating scale Your tier and LP set the baseline. Your top-four rate then nudges it: finishing in the money more often than not pushes the estimate above the baseline, and a weak record pulls it under. The size of that nudge is weighted by how many games you have played, so a handful of matches barely moves it.

4

Read the Health label, not just the number The number on its own means little. The Health label is the useful part: it tells you whether your rating sits ahead of your rank, behind it, or in line, which is what decides how much LP your next good placement is actually worth.
