Mastering the Latest TFT Patch 13.9 Meta: A guide to Strong Compositions and Itemization
Teamfight Tactics has undergone some significant updates and changes with the release of Patch 13.9. As a TFT booster for Eloboost24, I have been keeping a close eye on these changes and their effects on the game. In this article, we will explore the latest updates and how they have affected the world of Teamfight Tactics.
Nerfs to Kai’Sa and Miss Fortune

Kai’Sa and Miss Fortune were two champions who received significant nerfs in the latest patch. Kai’Sa was especially oppressive in the previous patch, with many players aggressively contesting her. However, with the latest changes, Kai’Sa won't be as oppressive as before. She will still be good sometimes from specific spots and with good augments. Miss Fortune also got a considerable Nerf, so there aren’t many comps revolving around her in this patch either. If you get a really good Anima Squad opener and farm a lot of stacks early, you can still play her, but that’s pretty much it.
Garen's Nerfs

Garen got some significant nerfs on both his hero augments. He is still a fine unit to play, but the Mech frontline with Garen won’t be such a consistent one anymore.
Bug Fixes

Two game-breaking bugs have been fixed in this patch. This means we can expect to see a new Gnar comp rising in your games! We’ll discuss this in more detail later in the article.
Hero Augment Adjustments

A lot of hero augments have been slightly adjusted in this patch. The Pyke carry augment got a little bit buffed, so you can see some reroll mascots with him and Vex popping off sometimes. Ashe carry augment got nerfed, but it is still a very strong option to reroll for her Blitz and Renekton 3 stars. The Lux carry augment looks considerable, but the truth is Lux carry will continue to be terrible in this patch. Lastly, the Cleansing safeguard, which used to be obscenely broken 2 patches ago and got nerfed to the ground, has started to regain its power. It might be in a sweet spot right now that it is good to play in the right setup, for instance early Warmog for him and a blue buff backline for a heart unit.
Balance in the Meta

With all the nerfs to the other meta comps from the previous patch, those buffs on Jhin and Viego will count a lot to give balance in the meta this patch! Considering the nerfs that hit the other meta comps last patch, Jhin and Viego in Renegades and Riftwalker is a really strong composition that can unit games once you manage to put the board online!
Jhin&Viego Riftwalker

The Jhin and Viego composition in Renegades and Riftwalker is a strong composition that can win games if you manage to put the board online. This comp requires a lot of swords as Jhin loves sword items, with Deathblade and Giantslayer being core items to deal with tanky front liners. Other items like Guardbreaker, Last Whisper, Infinity Edge, Hand of Justice, Bloodthirster, or Edge of Night can be situational based on what components you get or what you need for the lobby. You don't want to give tank items to this comp, but if offered Makeshift Armor from Augments is a good option for front liners without items. Any leftover AP items can go on Viego, which becomes a secondary carry once fully itemized.
Lulu&Pantheon Hearts+Supers

The Lulu comp is one of the cursed comps that either wins the game if it hits everything or goes uncontested 8th. The best augments for this reroll strategy are the Lulu carry and Pantheon carry ones, but you can also play it without a hero augment at 2-1. Keep all the Lulu's and Pantheons early game without leveling, preferably going for a loose streak so you can complete your Lulu items at the carousel. After krugs, at 3-1, roll to 30 gold to get better level 4 odds of hitting Lulu and Pantheon. Afterward, econ back up and slow roll at 50 gold until you hit them 3*. Then, go to level 6 to add Sona and continue to roll for Malphite and Lee Sin. If contested on supers, level up instead to add units like Alistar, Viego, or Syndra. Essential items for this comp are Bluebuff and Gunblade on Lulu and Ionic Spark on Pantheon. After that, prioritize a 3rd damage item for Lulu (usually Jeweled Gauntlet, Giant Slayer, or Guardbreaker) and the completion of tank items on Patheon. Strong augments that can help this comp are Featherweights, Axiom Arc, and Battlemage.
Gnar Gadgeteen reroll

After the nerfs to hackers, players have been experimenting with different ways to play Gnar. The Gnar Gadgeteen reroll is a new approach that replaces hackers with Sona, Morgana, and Ekko. Sona gives spellslinger to Annie and heart to Lulu and provides healing, stun, and cleanup damage with her ability. Morgana provides armor reduction, allowing you to forego Last Whisper on Gnar, and Ekko can taunt enemy carries away from Gnar, giving him more survivability with the trait. After fully itemizing Gnar with Titans Resolve and Bloodthirster, you can choose a third item that fits your playstyle, such as Deathblade, Giant Slayer, or Hand of Justice. If you manage to get a Gadgeteen emblem, you can replace Poppy with Alistar, which gives 3 full traits with Aegis, Mascot, and Ox Force on your board. To complete this comp, you'll want to slow roll at level 7 or 8 for Gnar, Sona, and Morgana, with rolling at level 8 increasing your odds of hitting Nunu as well.
