Pokemon GO May 2026: The Month That's Going to Make You Download the App Again

Let's be real. Most of us have a complicated relationship with Pokemon GO. You play it hard for two weeks, life gets in the way, and suddenly you haven't opened it in a month. But every once in a while, Niantic drops a month so packed that your phone basically guilt trips you into going outside. May 2026 is one of those months.

Two Community Days. A brand new Pokemon making its GO debut. A Super Mega Raid Day. And GO Fest Tokyo sitting at the end of the month like a reward for surviving all of it. If you're going to pick one month to get back into this game, you're reading about it right now.

Here's everything you need to know.

Lechonk Community Day Is Tomorrow and Yes, It's Worth It

I know what you're thinking. Lechonk? Really? The little pink pig? Hear me out.

Shiny odds during Community Day sit at 1 in 20 (5%). That's genuinely good odds. Walk for three hours, tap every single Lechonk you see, and you'll almost certainly leave with at least one shiny. Probably more.

The event runs May 9 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. local time, but here's the part people always forget: you have up to four hours after the event ends to evolve Lechonk and still get the exclusive fast attack Mud-Slap on Oinkologne. Don't panic-evolve everything during the three hours. Catch as many as you can, pick the best IVs, then evolve after.

Key bonuses on the day:

  • 1/4 Egg Hatch Distance with an active Incubator

  • 2x Catch Candy

  • Lure Modules last 1 hour

  • Trades cost 50% less Stardust with one extra Special Trade available

If you've been sitting on Pokemon to trade with a friend, do it on Community Day and save yourself a pile of Stardust.

Spring Marathon: A Brand New Pokemon Is Entering the Game

From May 12 at 10:00 a.m. to May 18 at 8:00 p.m., the Spring Marathon brings Flittle and Espathra to Pokemon GO for the very first time. Flittle is a Psychic-type from Generation 9 and this is your first ever shot at having it in your Pokedex. It hatches from 5 km Eggs during the event, with a chance at a Shiny.

There's also a Pikachu in a marathon visor because Niantic cannot physically release an event without putting a hat on Pikachu. We've accepted this. The GO Pass comes with XP bonuses and costumed variants like Eevee with cherry blossoms and Buneary with a flower crown. Collector bait at its finest and it works every time.

Deino Community Day Classic on May 16: This Is the Big One

Stop what you're doing on May 16. Clear your afternoon. This is the event of the month. The event runs from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. local time with 3x XP for catching Pokemon, increased Deino spawns, and a chance at Shiny Deino. Seven hours. That's an unusually generous window and you should use every bit of it.

The exclusive move is Brutal Swing on Hydreigon, a Dark-type charged attack that sees real use in GO Battle League. This isn't one of those event moves you get and immediately forget about. Evolve Zweilous before 9:00 p.m. on May 16 to guarantee your Hydreigon learns it.

Deino will also appear at PokeStops with active Lure Modules throughout the event window, still with increased Shiny odds. So even if you're stuck in one spot, keep those Lures running the whole time.

If you want to go into this event with the best possible setup, the Pokemon GO accounts marketplace is worth checking out before the 16th.

What's in Raids Right Now

While you're planning your Community Day prep, the raid rotation this week is worth your attention. Nihilego is in Five-Star Raids from May 6 to May 12, and Mega Camerupt is in Mega Raids for the same window. Nihilego is a Rock and Poison type Ultra Beast. If it's missing from your Pokedex, this week is the only window you have right now.

Shadow Cresselia is also appearing in five-star Shadow Raids on weekends throughout Memories in Motion, with a chance at a Shiny Shadow Cresselia. Shadow Legendaries with good IVs are genuinely valuable, so don't ignore the weekend Shadow schedule.

If you need Raid Passes before the Nihilego window closes on May 12, grab them through the Pokemon GO items shop so you're not scrambling on the day.

Mega Falinks Debuts on May 23 and You'll Need Friends for This

May 23 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. brings the Super Mega Raid Day debut of Mega Falinks, with boosted Shiny odds and up to five free Raid Passes for the day.

Super Mega Raid Days are built for group play. The free passes alone make this worth showing up for, and Shiny Falinks is a genuinely cool get. Use Campfire to find local groups ahead of time. Walking up solo to a Mega Raid Day with no coordination is how you end up leaving empty-handed.

GO Fest Tokyo Is the Reason Everyone Is Paying Attention Right Now

Everything this month is building toward this.

The Pokemon GO 10th anniversary event runs May 29 to June 1 across Minato, Koto and Shinagawa wards in Tokyo, centered at Odaiba Marine Park, with citywide gameplay opening from May 25.

Ticket holders complete Special Research for a Zeraora encounter and earn access to Mega Mewtwo X or Mega Mewtwo Y through GO Fest Timed Research and special raid experiences. Zeraora is making its full Pokemon GO debut here. Mega Mewtwo X and Y are debuting. This is not a small event.

Not going to Tokyo? That's completely fine. GO Fest 2026 Global runs July 11-12 and for the first time it is completely free for every Trainer who logs in during the event weekend. Special Research, bonuses and increased Shiny odds, all at zero cost.

Write that down. July 11-12. Free. No excuses.
