Murder Mystery 2 Beginner’s Guide: How to Win

Did you do it? If you’re pleading innocence, packing a sheriff’s badge, or secretly sharpening your knife, mastering the Murder Mystery 2 Beginner Guide starts by learning how to win as an Innocent, Sheriff, and Murderer.

What is Murder Mystery 2, you ask? It’s one of the most popular games in the Roblox community, attracting almost 400 million players per month since its January 2014 release. That’s over a decade’s worth of players, new and seasoned alike, who can’t seem to get enough of this addictive “who-done-it” game.

About Murder Mystery 2

If you’re a fan of classic murder mysteries, Murder Mystery 2 lets you choose between Innocent, Sheriff, or Murderer. Each role has its own objective as you compete against other players to eliminate them. Strategy is key here if you expect to survive this game, which offers Assassin, Disguises, and Standard modes. What’s cool about these options is the variety in the gameplay experience.

Innocent characters are obvious. Your goal is to avoid the wrath of the Murderer while the Sheriff tries to put an end to the killing spree. How effective you are as the plot unfolds depends on your ability to stay at least one step ahead of your foe. This is also said if you happen to be the Murderer or Sheriff. Obviously, your role as Murderer is to hunt down and kill off the Innocents. As Sheriff, your role is to take out the Murderer while also protecting the Innocents.

Choose Your Weapon

Unless you’re completely alien to the genre of murder mysteries, you’re likely aware that the most common weapons used are guns and knives. Let’s go over the best knives and guns in Murder Mystery 2 and how to get them. This way, you can cut and blast your way to the winner’s seat. If you expect to win in MM2, you need the right weapon.

Best Guns

The best guns typically “wow” the MM2 community and have great value. What makes them so special is more than just aesthetics. It’s their ability to perform in the game when in the hands of a skilled player. These guns also serve as a social status for MM2 players who stand out in the community as the best among the best.

#5 - Elderwood Revolver: From the 2019 Halloween Box, this gun is dark with a mythical design. On the MM2 market, it’s usually valued at about 50-70 Seers. This is an ideal piece for collectors and Sheriffs.

#4 - Chroma Lightbringer: Also from the Chroma line, the rainbow colors make this gun flash with style. It comes from the Mystery Crate 2 and is the perfect choice for Sheriffs. At a gameplay level, it’s no different than the standard Lightbringer, and it’s impeccable power and reputation. If you have at least 230 Seers, you can have one.

#3 - Sugar (from the Candy Set): Paired with the Candy knife, Sugar has become an iconic symbol of the MM2 community, often commanding at least 300 Seers in trade value. The candy cane stripes stand out, and the gun itself has a reliable hitbox. Players toting this weapon suggest they’re going to be hard to take down.

#2 - Iceblaster (from the Icebreaker Set): Feel the mighty cold presence of the Icelblaster, the coolest weapon of choice for Sheriffs. Paired with the Iceblaster knife, this is an unbeatable set that often asks for at least 200 Seers at the marketplace. Aside from its trading value, this gun gets the job done and is one of the most coveted items in the game since it was a limited-time Xmas 2020 event.

#1 - Harvester: Is it a gun or is it a blade? It’s technically a crossbow, but it has a trigger, so it kinda works like a gun. If you know how to point, aim, and shoot with it, treat it as your gun of choice, should you be lucky enough to have one. Good luck, though. On the market, it fetches at least 1,010 in trade value, and for good reason. Introduced during the 2021 Halloween Event, the simple aesthetics of this black and green shooter pack a punch when used against your victims.  Enjoy the sound effects and a weapon that does a beautiful job taking out the enemies.

Best Knives

#5 - Corrupt: This “glitchy” knife originally was awarded as compensation during the Data Loss Glitch timeline. It’s a uniquely designed tier blade loaded with lore and nostalgia. Not even the market influence from the Duping Glitch was enough to remove the lure of this unique collector’s item. On the MM2 market, collecting the Corrupt is not an easy feat due to its rarity and value to the game.

#4 - Candy (from the Candy Set): You met Sugar the gun. Now meet Candy the knife. This is also an iconic symbol of the MM2 community, thanks to its candy cane stripes and nostalgic flair. It also works beautifully as a knife against whoever you’re trying to eliminate from the game. Among the players who have this, don’t assume you’re going to get off easy.

#3 - Icebreaker (from The Icebreaker Set): It’s big, it’s bad, and it’s from the Xmas 2020 event. The Icebreaker is one of the biggest knives in the game and is perfect for players who definitely want to make their presence felt.

#2 - Nik’s Scythe: Do you have at least 145,000 Seers to grab this mythical artifact? If you do, maybe you can score MM2’s Nik’s Scythe. This comes from Nikilis, the game’s creator. It was granted only by the developer and tracked by the community. It’s easy to spot the red and black design, but good luck getting one. This is the ultimate MM2 status symbol due to its extreme rarity.

#1 - Swirly Axe: Don’t let the red and white candy-like appearance fool you! This is a mean weapon with its swirly animation zooming across the blade. The MM2 market has this ancient-tier knife listed no less than 200 Seers. This was the knife that pushed MM2’s gameplay to the limit when it was first introduced in the 2021 Christmas Event. It was released as an event reward but quickly grew in prowess and value, thanks to its animated features and in-game effectiveness.

Before hunting for your desired weapon, understand how the trading system works in MM2. This includes getting familiar with Seers.

MM2 Trading Guide: Best Tips and Trade Strategies

So, you wanna make a trade deal? Before you do, make sure you follow our MM2 Trading Guide for the best tips and strategies. Doing so will save you so much time, money, and headache. It only costs you real money if you decide to spend it.

What Are Seers?

Is Seers MM2 currency? No. Seers are highly valued items that players obtain through crafting and trading. Each Seer is worth 1,000 in-game coins and is used to determine trade values for various items. This includes guns and knives.

Using Seers to your advantage includes knowing how to trade them effectively. This includes understanding their value and market trends. Leverage Seers as a base for trading other items. This way, you make fair trades without spending more than you should.

Now, is there a gun or a knife that suits your fancy?  Why not visit the EB24 Marketplace to get one?

MM2 Events Guide to Get Exclusive Items

Who doesn’t want to get exclusive items from MM2? The more you build on a collection of highly coveted in-game content, the better. It’ll enhance your MM2 experience as a player, and boost its entertainment value as you embrace the glory of accomplishment.

MM2 offers players opportunities to jump into seasonal events by completing quests. This includes earning coins so you can open event boxes to grab unique cosmetics and more. Until March 16, 2026, the Valentine’s Event offers Heart Gems to access the Valentine’s Box featuring cosmetics, knives, and pistols.

In 2025, there were 3 seasonal events: Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Although these have already come and gone, players wanting the exclusive content from these can still obtain it. Granted, not necessarily through the game itself, but through well-respected marketplaces like EB24’s. Gearing up will certainly help you in the game.

Moving forward, jump into upcoming seasonal events and participate in as many quests as you can. This will really help you further develop your MM2 experience as a player. This also includes avoiding those costly mistakes so many beginners make.

Common Noob Mistakes (And How to Avoid Them)

When you join MM2 as a player, it’s easy to make newbie mistakes that’ll affect your gameplay. There are three roles to choose from (Innocents, Murderer, and Sheriff). Each role is challenging enough. Let’s look into those common mistakes, role by role, and how you can avoid making them.

Innocents Mistakes

#1: Don’t Stay Alone

How familiar are you with horror films? Even in the movies, characters who run off on their own become easy targets for the murderer to kill them off. Sticking with a group will make it harder for the murderer to pluck you off undetected. It’s in your best interest to work as a team while you’re grouped up. Figuring out the murderer together becomes easier.

#2: Lack of Attention

Always be aware of your surroundings. Pay attention to details, as this will help you discover clues about the murderer. Awareness also makes it harder for the murderer to take you out. Your attention span shouldn’t just focus on what you see, either. What do your ears tell you? That’ll help increase your odds of either avoiding becoming a victim or to learn who the murderer is.

#3: Trust Issues

If you’re too trusting, you’re setting yourself up as easy prey. Why do that to yourself? The best murderers excel at playing the “I’m innocent” game as a tactic to lower your guard. Don’t give them the satisfaction. Get to know other players and don’t pair up with someone you just met in the game. Make them earn your trust.

Murderer Mistakes

#1: Too Aggressive

Even in real life, the most effective murderers are those who use cunning instead of haste. Hunters do this with their prey, too. They watch. They calculate. Exercising utmost patience is key here. Learn when to strike without getting noticed or raising suspicion. It should go without saying that waiting until you’re alone with your target is the best timing to attack. Also, wait for players to become distracted before you make your move.

#2: Too Obvious

The longer you can behave as an Innocent as you carry out your role as Murderer, the better. Blend in with the crowd as much as possible. This is your ticket to lowering their guard so you can make your move. If you’re familiar with how some of the best murder mysteries work in film, then you know the guilty party is almost never figured out until the very end. Notice how they’re always so friendly and helpful in the beginning without overdoing it?

#3: Ignorance

Not only should you blend in with your fellow Innocents, but also treat each one as if they’re the Sheriff. You already know one of them is, but who is it? Be friendly with them, but also keep a safe distance and out of their direct line of sight whenever you can. Use as many deceptive tactics as you can so you can confuse the Sheriff and make it harder for them to figure you out.

Sheriff Mistakes

#1: Early Role Reveal

The number one enemy of the Murderer is the Sheriff. Revealing yourself in this role too early in the game makes it harder for you to stop them. Ideally, you should wait until you’ve pooled enough evidence to figure out who the Murderer is. The best way to do this is to share your suspicions as if you’re another Innocent. Always treat your fellow players with extreme caution, long before revealing your role.

#2: Poor Aim

You need ideal aiming and shooting skills as Sheriff. Missing your shot against the Murderer allows them to escape and attack again. Your best bet is to practice aiming in the game. This includes taking your time before shooting and remaining calm. The more focused you are, especially when things get crazy, the better it is for you to take that perfect shot.

#3: Communication Failure
Good law enforcers and agencies always investigate everything and everyone before making any judgment calls. This also applies to MM2. A good Sheriff will communicate with every player to learn as much as they can (without revealing their role). This way, it’s easier to learn who the murderer is. As you communicate, find out what the Innocents know. Also, share your suspicions with caution. Don’t let anyone know who you are prematurely. Should you learn among the Innocents who you can really trust, team up and communicate with each other often, so you can gang up on the Murderer and take them down.

Practice Makes Perfect

To excel in MM2, practice often. The more you play and follow our beginner’s guide, the better you’ll get at the game. Learn the maps as you go. This way, whatever role you play, you’ll know how to hide and when to attack. Remember, practicing really does make perfect. This boosts skill and confidence, as well as your ability to establish a winning streak that’s virtually unbeatable.

Make a point to learn from other players, no matter what their role is. Use that learning curve to avoid the mistakes they’re making, and the “wow” moments you see from superior players. It’s also important to stay calm, especially when things get intense. A calmer demeanor leads to better decision-making. Again, remember the movies. Panicky people are the easiest for murderers to take out of the picture, as they’re prone to making too many mistakes. Calmer people who practice common sense and cunning have far better odds of stopping their foes dead in their tracks.
