TFT Set 17: Space Gods - Complete Guide & Everything You Need to Know

TFT Set 17: Space Gods is one of the most experimental updates Riot has ever released, introducing a brand new system that replaces one of the core mechanics of the game. This guide covers everything you need to know about Teamfight Tactics’ biggest update of 2026 including new traits, champions, the Realm of the Gods mechanic, best builds, and tier lists.

This blog is continuously updated - We will keep adding new information as PBE testing progresses (starting April 1) and after the official live launch on April 15. Bookmark this page and check back regularly.

We update this guide daily during PBE, including early meta builds, broken comps, and tier list changes.

What is Teamfight Tactics (TFT)?

🎮 TFT in a Nutshell

Teamfight Tactics (TFT) is Riot Games auto-battler strategy game, set in the League of Legends universe. Eight players compete on individual boards, building teams of champions that fight automatically. The goal is to be the last player standing.

Every few months, Riot releases a brand-new Set a complete content refresh with new champions, traits (synergies), items, and a unique set mechanic. Each Set resets the meta, giving everyone an equal footing to master the new gameplay systems.

TFT is available on PC (via the League of Legends client), iOS, and Android completely free to play. It has grown into one of the most popular strategy games in the world, with a thriving competitive scene including global open events like the TFT Vegas Open and TFT Paris Open.

If you're brand new to TFT, think of it like a strategic chess match: you spend gold to buy champions, position them on your board, equip them with items, and activate trait bonuses by combining champions from the same origin or class. Every decision matters economy management, when to roll for upgrades, and how you position your units against opponents.

TFT Set 17: Space Gods - Overview

TFT Set 17 is called "Space Gods" a cosmic, mythology-inspired set that takes the universe of TFT beyond Runeterra and into the stars. Riot describes it as a little more fantasy, a little more mystical, a little more divine.

This is the first TFT Set of 2026, and it comes with a massive shakeup. The most significant change? The traditional carousel rounds, a staple of TFT since the game launched, are being replaced by an entirely new system called the Realm of the Gods. More on that below.

Set 17 returns to a "normal-sized" roster compared to some of the larger recent sets, but compensates with depth through nine divine gods, fresh traits, and 40 new augments including 8 unique Hero Augments.

Release Dates & PBE Schedule

  • Official Reveal - March 28-30, 2026 | Riot's full reveal stream

  • PBE Testing Begins - April 1, 2026 | Two weeks of community testing

  • Live Server Launch - April 15, 2026 | Set 17 goes live globally

PBE testing is crucial for players who want to get ahead of the meta. The two-week PBE window (April 1-15) is your best opportunity to experiment with comps, learn traits, and identify early broken builds before the ranked race begins.

New Mechanic: Realm of the Gods

⚡ Replaces Carousel Rounds

The Realm of the Gods completely replaces TFT's traditional carousel rounds, one of the games defining systems since launch. Instead of picking a champion-item combo from a spinning wheel, you now visit a divine marketplace to choose blessings from the gods.

Here's how the Realm of the Gods works:

  • At the start of each game, two random gods are chosen from a pool of nine. These two gods define your experience for the entire match.

  • During each "carousel" round (stages 2, 3, and 4), instead of picking from the carousel, you choose a Minor Blessing from one of the two gods. Each choice adds a "vote" toward that god.

  • After Round 4-4, your accumulated votes determine which god you've aligned with. The majority wins.

  • At Round 4-7, your chosen god rewards you with a powerful God Boon, a major bonus that can define your endgame strategy.

This system adds a new layer of strategic planning: do you commit to one god early for alignment bonuses, or hedge between two gods to maximize flexibility?

💡 Early Insight
This system will likely reward players who commit early rather than those who try to stay flexible for too long. In early testing, indecision may be one of the biggest reasons players lose consistency.

Best Comps & Builds (Early Meta Predictions)

The best comps and builds for TFT Set 17 will become clear after PBE testing begins on April 1. We'll be updating this section throughout PBE and post-launch. Based on early previews and game mechanics, these comps are expected to perform strongly in PBE lobbies:

  • Dark Star vertical - 6 or 9 Dark Star with Jhin as the primary carry. Execute mechanic is incredibly powerful.

  • Anima Weapons reroll - Loss-streak your way to powerful Anima Weapons, then spike hard. High variance but high ceiling.

  • Mecha flex - Transform your units into their Ultimate forms for a late-game power spike.

  • Zed Hero Augment - Build around the infinite-cloning Zed for an unconventional but potentially dominant strategy.

  • Groovian Dance - Sustained Attack Speed and AD scaling. Strong in long combat matchups.

Climb Faster with EB24

The first two weeks of a new TFT set are always the most competitive. Players who understand the meta early gain a massive LP advantage, while everyone else is still experimenting and making mistakes.

If you don’t have time to test comps on PBE or grind ranked from day one, a lot of players choose to speed things up with platforms like EB24. Whether it’s climbing divisions, improving consistency, or just avoiding the frustration of early-set chaos, having the right support can make a noticeable difference.

Some players focus on fast rank progression through TFT Division Boost, while others prefer a more controlled climb using TFT Net Win Boost to maintain a steady win rate. If you're starting fresh, TFT Placement Games services can help you land in a much better position right from the beginning.

For players who actually want to improve (not just gain LP), TFT Coaching is often the best option, especially early in the set when understanding meta fundamentals matters the most.

And if you're looking for flexibility, the TFT Marketplace allows you to choose exactly what fits your needs, including more niche services like GGirls TFT Services. Early-set climbing is where the biggest LP gains happen - if you fall behind here, catching up later becomes significantly harder.
