Twisted Fate LoL Classic Build: Support
Twisted Fate support sounds like a troll pick until you read three lines of his Classic ability text. Then it stops sounding like a troll pick and starts sounding like the most obvious thing in the mode.
This is the beta version of the champion. Not the 2011 rework, not anything close to what you have played in the last decade. Gate is a separate ability on E and it is a global teleport. Destiny is the ultimate and it reveals every enemy champion on the map while slowing them. Those are two different buttons here, and the champion built around them is a support, not a mid laner.
TL;DR: max W, then E, then Q, with R at 6, 11, and 16. Take gold generation items early, then Twin Shadows into Boots of Mobility into Shurelya's Reverie, and treat Gate as a second Teleport you get to use every minute. The passive gives your entire team bonus gold, which is the single most underrated line of text in League Classic.
Loaded Dice Is a Team Wide Gold Aura
Start here, because everything else follows from it.
While Twisted Fate is alive, he and his allies receive an additional 2 gold per unit kill.
Not per his kill. Per unit kill, for everybody. Your ADC gets it. Your top laner gets it. Your jungler gets it on every camp. In a mode where the entire support role is defined by being poor, you have brought a passive that quietly funds four other people.
The obvious conclusion is that this scales with how much your team is farming, which means it is at its best exactly where a support wants to be: standing next to a carry who is last hitting, and alive rather than dead. There is a real argument that Twisted Fate contributes more gold to a team from the support slot than from mid, because in the support slot he is not taking anyone's farm to do it.
Gate Is a Second Teleport, and It Gets Better With Ranks
Gate is a global range teleport on a 3 second channel, and it costs 80 mana. The cooldown is 120 seconds at rank 1, dropping to 60 seconds at rank 5.
Read that again. A one minute global teleport, on an ability, in a mode where map movement is slow and vision is expensive.
This is what makes support Twisted Fate a real strategy rather than a joke. You are not a support who occasionally roams. You are a support who can be in bot lane, watch your top laner get collapsed on, and arrive. Then walk back down. Then do it again a minute later.
And Destiny cuts the channel to 1.5 seconds. So the ultimate is not only a reveal and a slow, it is what turns Gate from a telegraphed three second commitment into something fast enough to use inside a fight that has already started.
The Rest of the Kit
Key | Ability | Numbers that matter |
|---|---|---|
P | Loaded Dice | While alive, Twisted Fate and his allies get 2 extra gold per unit kill. |
Q | Wild Cards | 60 to 100 mana, 6 second cooldown, 1450 range. Three cards in a cone, 60/110/160/210/260 (+65% AP) magic damage each, once per enemy per pass. |
W | Pick a Card | 40 to 100 mana, 6 second cooldown. Cycles Blue, Red, Gold for 6 seconds. Recast empowers the next attack and resets your attack timer. |
E | Gate | 80 mana, cooldown 120/105/90/75/60, global, 3 second channel. |
R | Destiny | 150 mana, cooldown 130/110/90. Reveals all enemy champions and slows them 30% for 4/5/6 seconds. Reduces Gate's channel to 1.5 seconds. |
The card details that matter for support:
Gold Card stuns for 1 up to 2 seconds. That is your crowd control and it is why W is your first max. A two second point and click stun on a 6 second cooldown is support crowd control by any standard.
Red Card slows by 30 up to 50% in an area around the target. Your setup tool and your disengage.
Blue Card restores 50 up to 150 mana. On a 240 base mana champion who is casting constantly, this is what keeps the lane going.
Note also that the card order is always Blue, Red, Gold, repeating, and only the starting card is random. Learn that rhythm and you can select Gold reliably instead of gambling.
One more useful detail: the recast can be used while silenced. If you have already activated Pick a Card, a silence does not stop you from cashing it in.
Twisted Fate Support Build
Start. Faerie Charm and Health Potions, or the standard support ward and potion opening depending on how your lane wants to play the first two levels.
1. Gold generation, early. Philosopher's Stone for the sustain and income, Kage's Lucky Pick if you want the Ability Power on top. Twisted Fate benefits from these more than most supports, because the passive means every point of gold efficiency compounds across your whole team. Kage's is also a component you will use later.
2. Twin Shadows. This is the first real item and it is a better fit here than on almost any other support in the mode. It carries Ability Power, Magic Resist, and 6% movement speed, and the active sends out two invulnerable ghosts that hunt down the two nearest enemy champions, slowing them when they connect.
Look at what that does next to the rest of the kit. Destiny already reveals every enemy on the map and slows them by 30%. Twin Shadows finds and slows the two closest ones on demand, on a far shorter cooldown, and it does it without you having to be in range of anything. You are building a champion whose entire job is knowing where people are and stopping them from leaving.
3. Boots of Mobility. The obvious choice on a support whose job description is being somewhere else, and the reason this order works. Twin Shadows gives you 6% movement speed on top, so by your second item you are already moving faster than anyone expects a support to move.
4. Shurelya's Reverie. The movement speed active for the whole team, plus gold generation and cooldown reduction. This is the third piece of the same puzzle: Twin Shadows moves you, Mobility moves you, Shurelya's moves everybody. Get all three and your team arrives at fights before the enemy has finished setting one up.
5 and 6, read the game. Aegis of the Legion is the default, because the team you keep teleporting to needs to survive once you get there. Zeke's Herald if you have an Attack Damage carry worth investing in. Straight resistances such as Randuin's Omen if you are the one being focused down.
Skill order: W, then E, then Q.
W first is not negotiable. Gold Card's stun goes from 1 second to 2 seconds across its ranks. Doubling the duration of your only hard crowd control is the biggest single upgrade available to you, and the mana cost is the lowest of your abilities at rank 1.
E second, and this is the choice that defines the build. Ranks in Gate cut the cooldown in half, from 120 seconds down to 60. That is not a small quality of life change, it is the difference between a global teleport being an occasional trick and being a rotation you plan around. Most people max Q here out of habit. Do not.
Q last. Wild Cards has a huge 1450 range and it is genuinely useful for pushing a wave or poking, but in a support build with no Ability Power items, extra ranks are buying you a small amount of damage at a rising mana cost.
Runes and Masteries
These are my recommendations rather than a settled page, so adjust to taste.
Marks of Magic Penetration. Everything you deal is magic damage, including the card procs.
Seals of Armor. Bot lane, ranged opponents, standard.
Glyphs of Scaling Magic Resist. You are not usually the target early and you very much are later.
Quintessences of Movement Speed. This build is about being in the right place, and movement speed is the one stat that works from the first second of the game to the last. It stacks with Boots of Mobility, with Twin Shadows, and with Shurelya's Reverie, so every purchase you make afterwards compounds it.
Quintessences of Gold are the alternative and they are tempting on the champion who already has a gold passive, but the maths is worse than it looks. They generate roughly 18 gold per minute, they do not start ticking until the 1:30 mark, and across a long game they add up to somewhere near one component item. If you want them for the theme, take them, but Loaded Dice is already solving your gold problem for the whole team. Runes should solve the problem the kit does not, and that problem is arriving.

Masteries: 3 offense, 0 defense, 27 utility. Not a typo and not a hybrid page. Twenty seven points go into utility, and the three offensive points exist for exactly one thing: Sorcery, for the extra cooldown reduction. Nothing else in that tree is worth a point on this build.
The reason to spend a full 27 in utility is that every single thing this champion wants is in there. Greed compounds with the gold theme you are already playing. Wanderer and the movement tier feed the roaming that Gate and Boots of Mobility are built around. The improved summoner spell cooldowns matter on a support who needs Flash available, and the buff duration extension pays out every time you hand blue to your mid laner.
Skipping defense entirely is a real risk on a 466 Health champion in a bot lane. You accept it because you are not the one who is supposed to be getting hit, and because a support Twisted Fate who plays for safety is a support Twisted Fate who never leaves the lane, which defeats the entire point.

How to Play It
Lane phase is normal support work. Stand at range, use Wild Cards to poke when it is free, and look for Gold Card stuns when your ADC is in a position to punish one. Blue Card is your mana bar. Cycle it when nothing is happening.
Watch the card order. Blue, Red, Gold, repeating, with only the first card random. If you activate Pick a Card early in a trade, you can time the recast to land Gold exactly when your carry commits, instead of hoping.
Then start using Gate. This is the part people never do. The moment you have a rank or two in E, you have a global teleport with a cooldown shorter than most ultimates. Use it to:
Join a fight anywhere. Bot lane is quiet and top is skirmishing? You are already there.
Take a free objective. Teleport to a warded position near dragon while the enemy is committed elsewhere.
Reset a lost lane. Recall, buy, then Gate straight back to bot instead of walking.
Split the map. With your team grouped, you can be the person who is somewhere else entirely.
Vision makes this build work. Gate needs a location, and your best locations are ones you have vision of. Buying wards is not just support duty here, it is what determines where your teleport can land.
Destiny is an information ultimate first. Reveals every enemy champion on the map, which tells your team exactly where a fight is safe to start. The 30% slow makes engages and disengages work, and the Gate channel reduction is the part everybody forgets. Ultimate, then teleport, is a legitimate play.
What Beats You
Being killed in lane. Loaded Dice only works while you are alive, so dying is not just a normal support death, it is your team's income switching off.
Anyone who punishes a 3 second channel. Gate without Destiny is a long, visible, interruptible commitment. Use it from safety, not from a fight.
Mana. 240 base mana and a 150 mana ultimate. Blue Card is not optional.
What Changed From Modern Twisted Fate
Gate is a separate ability on E. In the modern champion the teleport is folded into the ultimate. Here it is a standalone global on its own cooldown, which is the whole reason this build exists.
Destiny reveals and slows. It does not teleport you by itself. The modern version has no slow and is a reveal plus teleport package.
Loaded Dice grants gold to the whole team. Modern Twisted Fate's passive gives bonus gold to himself only.
There is no Stacked Deck. No attack speed steroid, no every fourth attack bonus damage. That ability does not exist in this version.
The habit to unlearn is thinking of the ultimate as your map presence. Your map presence is on E, available roughly every minute, and the ultimate is what makes it fast.
Who Should Play This
Play Twisted Fate support if you like deciding where the game happens rather than winning a two versus two, and if you can be disciplined about vision. You bring a real stun, a real slow, a team wide gold passive, and a global teleport on a one minute cooldown. That is a lot of support for a champion nobody drafts as one.
Do not pick him if your team needs a tanky support to actually engage fights, or if you are not going to buy wards. A support Twisted Fate without vision is just a mid laner standing in the wrong lane.
